The problem comes when I just pop into the supermarket on my way home from somewhere else: sometimes I don't have a bag, sometimes I have a canvas bag but I end up buying more things than I can fit in it. I'm talking about milk boxes. Milk cartons often come in six-pack boxes, but it's not necessary to buy the whole pack. Customers are allowed to take the cartons out of the box and buy them individually. This means that there usually are empty or half-empty boxes sitting around in the milk aisle. And these cardboard boxes have a very convenient handle.

So, when I need a bag for my groceries, I go to the milk section and find some empty boxes. If none are available, I look for boxes with only two or three cartons in them and leave those on the shelf, which is perfectly fine to do. Then I reuse re-use the box, which was to be discarded, to carry my groceries home, instead of getting a single-use plastic bag.
